dahatā ca mayā laṅkāṃ dagdhā sītā na saṃśayaḥ |

rāmasya hi mahat-kāryaṃ mayedaṃ vitathī-kṛtam ||

As I burned Lanka, Sītā too must have been burned—there is no doubt. By my own act, Rama’s great purpose has been made futile.

"Lanka has been burnt by me and Sita might have also been burnt. There is no doubt. The great purpose of Rama has been spoilt by me'.

Dharma demands truthful self-judgment: Hanuman does not excuse himself, and he prioritizes Rama’s righteous goal over personal triumph.

Seeing Lanka in flames, Hanuman is struck by the fear that Sita may have died, and he laments that Rama’s mission would thereby fail.

Satya (truthfulness) and bhakti (devoted loyalty): he is pained not for himself, but for potentially harming Rama’s cause.
