Shloka 5.48.22
इन्द्रजित्प्रेषणम्—ब्रह्मास्त्रबन्धः, हनूमद्ग्रहणं, रावणसभाप्रवेशः (Indrajit’s Deployment—Brahmāstra Binding, Hanuman’s Capture, Entry into Ravana’s Court)
तस्मिंस्ततः संयति जातहर्षे रणाय निर्गच्छति चापपाणौ।दिशश्च सर्वाः कलुषा बभूवु र्मृगाश्च रौद्रा बहुधा विनेदुः।।।।
tasmiṃs tataḥ saṃyati jātaharṣe raṇāya nirgacchati cāpapāṇau | diśaś ca sarvāḥ kaluṣā babhūvur mṛgāś ca raudrā bahudhā vineduḥ ||
As he went forth to battle, exultant and bow in hand, all the quarters grew dark and troubled; and wild beasts howled in many dreadful ways.
When he sallied forth happily holding a bow full of passion for war, darkness prevailed in all quarters and it became gloomy. Beasts began to howl in various frightful ways.
The Ramayana frequently links moral disorder (adharma) with cosmic unease. Portents signal that violence driven by unrighteous aims disturbs the natural order.
As Indrajit marches out to fight, the environment responds with ominous signs—darkness and frightening animal cries—foreshadowing peril.
