अभिज्ञानमणि-प्रदानम् — The Signet Jewel as Proof and the Consolation of Sita
त्वमस्मिन्कार्यनिर्योगे प्रमाणं हरिसत्तम।हनुमन्यत्नमास्थाय दुःखक्षयकरो भव।।।।तस्य चिन्तयतो यत्नो दुःखक्षयकरो भवेत्।
ahaṃ tāvad iha prāptaḥ kiṃ punas te mahā-balāḥ |
na hi prakṛṣṭāḥ preṣyante preṣyante hītare janāḥ ||
If I have managed to reach here, then how much more surely will those mighty ones of yours! For the foremost are not usually sent as mere envoys; it is the ordinary who are dispatched.
"O best of monkeys! it is your responsibility to carry out this task. O Hanuman! think carefully of that. Take the initiative to reduce my suffering. I am confident that you can do it."
Dharma is expressed as humble service: even one who is capable does not boast, and a messenger acts for the good of the mission rather than for personal status.
Hanumān reassures Sītā in Laṅkā, arguing that if he could arrive, then Rāma’s stronger allies can certainly come—while also downplaying his own rank as a simple envoy.
Hanumān’s humility and tact—he strengthens Sītā’s hope while presenting himself as merely a servant of the larger righteous cause.
