अभिज्ञानप्रदानम् — The Token of Recognition (Chūḍāmaṇi) and the Crow Episode Recalled
इत्युक्तवति तस्मिंस्तु सीता सुरसुतोपमा।उवाच शोकसन्तप्ता हनुमन्तं प्लवङ्गमम्।।5.38.55।।
ity uktavati tasmiṃs tu sītā surasutopamā | uvāca śokasantaptā hanumantaṃ plavaṅgamam ||5.38.55||
When he had spoken thus, Sītā—like the daughter of a god—afflicted by grief, spoke to Hanumān, the Vānara.
"Hanuman having spoken this way, Sita, resembling a god's daughter, grieving, thus addressed Hanuman:
The verse frames suffering without loss of dignity: Sītā remains ‘blameless’ and noble even in grief, highlighting endurance and moral steadiness under adversity.
A narrative handover: after Hanumān’s reassurance, the text transitions to Sītā’s reply.
Sītā’s steadfastness amid sorrow: grief is present, yet she engages in purposeful communication.
