O blameless lady, if you do not wish to go with me, then grant a token of recognition, so that Rāghava may know for certain that I have met you.
"O blameless lady! If you wish not to accompany me you may give me a token of identification to let Rama know about my coming here and seeing you".
Responsible truth (satya) requires verification: Hanumān asks for an identifying token so the message to Rāma remains trustworthy and unambiguous.
Hanumān proposes immediate return with Sītā; when she may not depart, he requests a token to prove his encounter to Rāma.
Hanumān’s prudence and integrity—he safeguards the credibility of his mission.
