समुद्रलङ्घनारम्भः — Commencement of the Ocean-Crossing
सागरस्योर्मिजालानामुरसा शैलवर्ष्मणाम्।अभिघ्नंस्तु महावेगः पुप्लुवे स महाकपिः।।।।
sāgarasyormijālānām urasā śailavarṣmaṇām | abhighnaṃs tu mahāvegaḥ pupluve sa mahākapiḥ ||
Swift as he was, that great monkey sped on, striking with his chest the ocean’s interlaced waves, which rose with bodies like mountains.
As the great vanara was flying swiftly, the oceanic waves in rows dashing against his chest rose as high as the mountain.
Dharma is perseverance against resistance: obstacles (mountain-like waves) are met directly and endured for the sake of a truthful and righteous objective.
Hanumān continues his passage, his forward motion colliding with and lifting the ocean’s waves.
Dhairya (steadfast endurance) and bala (strength) in confronting impediments.
