मैत्रीप्रतिज्ञा-वैरकारणप्रश्नः (Friendship Vow and Inquiry into the Cause of Enmity)

बाष्पवेगं तु सहसा नदीवेगमिवागतम्।धारयामास धैर्येण सुग्रीवो रामसन्निधौ।।

bāṣpavegaṃ tu sahasā nadīvegam ivāgatam | dhārayāmāsa dhairyeṇa sugrīvo rāmasannidhau ||

But Sugrīva, before Rāma, steadied with patience the sudden rush of tears that came like the surge of a river.

Quickly Sugriva controlled his tears streaming fast like the rushing river, with patience, Rama seated in front.

Sugrīva
R
Rāma

Dharma here is expressed as self-restraint (dama): even in grief, one should steady the mind and speech, especially in the presence of a righteous protector.

Sugrīva is emotionally overwhelmed while speaking with Rāma, yet he composes himself to continue his account.

Sugrīva’s patience and composure—he governs emotion so that truthful communication can proceed.
