Shloka 4.65.2
पञ्चषष्टितमः सर्गः — वानराणां प्लवन-पराक्रम-निरूपणम् (Assessment of the Vanaras’ Leaping Capacity; Jambavan Motivates Hanuman)
अथाङ्गदवचश्श्रुत्वा ते सर्वे वानरर्षभाः।स्वं स्वं गतौ समुत्साहमूचुस्तत्र यथाक्रमम्।।4.65.1।।गजो गवाक्षो गवयश्शरभो गन्धमादनः।मैन्दश्च द्विविदश्चैव सुषेणो जाम्बवां स्तथा।।4.65.2।।
athāṅgada-vacaḥ śrutvā te sarve vānararṣabhāḥ |
svaṃ svaṃ gatau samutsāham ūcus tatra yathākramam ||
gajo gavākṣo gavayaḥ śarabho gandhamādanaḥ |
maindaś ca dvividaś caiva suṣeṇo jāmbavāṃs tathā ||
Then, having heard Angada’s words, all those bull-like leaders among the vānaras—Gaja, Gavākṣa, Gavaya, Śarabha, Gandhamādana, Mainda, Dvivida, Suṣeṇa, and also Jāmbavān—declared, each in turn, the extent of his own ability for the journey.
Thereafter, on hearing Angada, all the leaders among the monkeys, Gaja, Gavaksha, Gavaya, Sarabha, Gandhamadana, Mainda, Dvivida, Sushena and Jambavan as well expressed one after the other their capability for leaping.
Dharma as collective responsibility: leaders step forward in an orderly, accountable way, offering their capacities for the common mission rather than acting impulsively.
After Angada calls for an assessment, the vānarā chiefs respond one after another, stating their individual ability to undertake the ocean-crossing mission.
Discipline and cooperative leadership—speaking in turn, contributing one’s strength to a shared righteous goal.
