Shloka 4.65.17

पञ्चषष्टितमः सर्गः — वानराणां प्लवन-पराक्रम-निरूपणम् (Assessment of the Vanaras’ Leaping Capacity; Jambavan Motivates Hanuman)

सम्प्रत्येतावतीं शक्तिं गमने तर्कयाम्यहम्।नैतावता हि संसिद्धिः कार्यस्यास्य भविष्यति।।।।

sampraty etāvatīṃ śaktiṃ gamane tarkayāmy aham |

na etāvatā hi saṃsiddhiḥ kāryasyāsya bhaviṣyati ||

At present, I judge my strength for the journey to be only this much; with only this, the success of this undertaking will not be attained.

'I guess that at this time I do not have the capacity to fly to that extent. Achieving the objective is out of question with this much of energy.

Jāmbavān

Dharma requires realistic planning based on truth: admitting insufficiency prevents the group from failing a righteous mission through self-deception.

Jāmbavān concludes that his present strength alone cannot accomplish the ocean-crossing objective.

Practical wisdom: he prioritizes the task’s success over personal reputation.
