Shloka 4.64.8
अङ्गदोपदेशः समुद्रदर्शन-विषादश्च (Angada’s Counsel and the Vanaras’ Despondency at the Ocean)
आकाशमिव दुष्पारं सागरं प्रेक्षय वानराः।विषेदु स्सहसासर्वे कथं कार्यमिति ब्रुवन्।।।।
ākāśam iva duṣpāraṃ sāgaraṃ prekṣya vānarāḥ |
viṣeduḥ sahasā sarve kathaṃ kāryam iti bruvan ||
Seeing the ocean—impassable like the sky—the monkeys all at once fell into dejection, saying, “How can this task be accomplished?”
All the monkeys were worried when they suddenly saw the ocean which looked impassable like the sky. They wondered if they can at all accomplish the task (of finding Sita)
Their fear highlights a real human-like limit in the face of an immense obstacle; dharma here is not denial of difficulty but returning from despair to steadfast effort in service of a righteous mission (finding Sita).
The Vanaras speak truthfully about the challenge—“How can this be done?”—and this honest assessment becomes the starting point for finding a truthful, workable means to fulfill the mission without abandoning it.
