Shloka 4.64.12
अङ्गदोपदेशः समुद्रदर्शन-विषादश्च (Angada’s Counsel and the Vanaras’ Despondency at the Ocean)
यो विषादं प्रसहते विक्रमे पर्युपस्थिते।तेजसा तस्य हीनस्य पुरुषार्थो न सिध्यति।।।।
yo viṣādaṃ prasahate vikrame paryupasthite |
tejasā tasya hīnasya puruṣārtho na sidhyati ||
Whoever yields to despair when the moment for valor has arrived loses his inner radiance; deprived of that strength, he cannot accomplish his rightful aims.
'If one succumbs to despondency while he has to exhibit his valour, his brilliance gets diminished and he does not succeed in his manly pursuits'.
Dharma is fulfilled through courageous action at the needed time; despair drains tejas and obstructs the completion of rightful duties and aims.
Aṅgada continues motivating the vānaras, explaining that succumbing to despair precisely when bravery is required leads to failure.
Vīrya guided by clarity—acting with spirited resolve so that the mission (puruṣārtha) can be achieved.
