O Sampāti, you are indeed the elder, and Jatāyu is your younger brother. Assuming a human form, please accept (touch) my feet.

Sampāti
J
Jatāyu

Respect for elders and rightful honor (maryādā) is upheld as dharma; the speaker acknowledges Sampāti’s seniority and offers reverence through the traditional act of touching the feet.

The vānaras, having met Sampāti during the search for Sītā, address him respectfully after learning his identity and relation to Jatāyu.

Humility and reverence—expressed by honoring an elder and seeking his goodwill in a culturally proper manner.
