स्वयम्प्रभा-विमोचनम् — Svayamprabha Leads the Vanaras Out (Time-Limit Crisis and Counsel)
किं मे सुहृदभिर्व्यसनं पश्यद्भिर्जीवितान्तरे।।।।इहैव प्रायमासिष्ये पुण्ये सागररोधसि।
kiṃ me suhṛdabhir vyasanaṃ paśyadbhir jīvitāntare |
ihaiva prāyam āsiṣye puṇye sāgararodhasi ||
What use is it that my friends should witness my calamity at the end of my life? Here itself, upon this sacred seashore, I will sit fasting unto death.
'I do not want my friends to see my calamity, my death. I shall sit here on the sacred shores of this ocean and await my death'.
The verse raises a dhārmic tension: choosing death to avoid shame and burdening others versus persevering in duty and truthfully reporting; it illustrates how despair can eclipse dharma.
Believing return will bring punishment and dishonor, Aṅgada proposes prāya (fasting to death) on the seashore so his friends need not witness his downfall.
Sensitivity toward companions (not wanting them to suffer), though mixed with loss of hope.
