स्वयंप्रभा-संवादः (Svayamprabha’s Dialogue with the Vanaras)
विचित्य तु वयं सर्वे समग्रां दक्षिणां दिशम्।परित्रान्ता बुभुक्षिता वृक्षमूलमुपाश्रिताः।।4.52.9।।
vicitya tu vayaṃ sarve samagrāṃ dakṣiṇāṃ diśam | paritrāntā bubhukṣitā vṛkṣamūlamupāśritāḥ ||
Having searched the whole southern quarter, we all—wearied and hungry—took shelter at the root of a tree.
The Vanaras had spent considerable time searching the entire southern direction for Sita without success, leading to physical exhaustion and hunger before they discovered the Rikshabila cave.
The Southern Direction (Dakshina) was the specific region assigned to Angada, Hanuman, and their group by Sugriva to search for Sita, as it was the direction Ravana was seen heading.
