मैत्रीप्रतिष्ठा (Rama–Sugriva Alliance and Fire-Rite of Friendship)
ततोऽग्निं दीप्यमानं तौ चक्रतुश्च प्रदक्षिणम्।।4.5.16।।सुग्रीवो राघवश्चैव वयस्यत्वमुपागतौ।
dīpyamānaṁ tato vahniṁ puṣpair abhyarcya satkṛtam || 4.5.15 ||
tayor madhye ’tha suprīto nidadhe susamāhitaḥ |
Then, worshipping the blazing fire with flowers and honoring it duly, he—well pleased and fully attentive—placed it between the two.
They both circumambulated the blazing fire and solemnized their friendship.
Dharma emphasizes accountability: by honoring Agni and placing the fire between them, the bond is made under sacred witness, discouraging betrayal and encouraging truthfulness.
After kindling fire, Hanumān performs a simple worship and positions the fire as the central witness for the forthcoming circumambulation and vow.
Ritual discipline and mindful action (susamāhita): the rite is done carefully, reflecting respect for sacred procedure.
