There grows wondrous sandalwood—gośīrṣa, padmaka, and the dark-green hariśyāma—along with a divine sandalwood that shines with fire-like radiance.

'There grow sandal trees of amazing colours like that of gorochana, padmaka (like lotus), greenish black and red as fire.

The verse sets up a dharmic test: alluring, precious things appear on the path, but the righteous mission requires restraint and prioritizing the search over indulgence.

Sugriva describes a region on the route marked by rare, brilliantly colored sandalwoods.

Self-restraint (dama): not being diverted by beauty or wealth while carrying out a solemn duty.
