Shloka 4.40.60

पूर्वदिशि सीतामार्गण-नियोगः (Deployment to the Eastern Quarter for the Search of Sita)

अयं सुदर्शनो द्वीपः पुरो यस्य प्रकाशते।।4.40.60।।यस्मिं स्तेजश्च चक्षुश्च सर्वप्राणभृतामपि।

ayaṃ sudarśano dvīpaḥ puro yasya prakāśate | yasmiṃs tejaś ca cakṣuś ca sarvaprāṇabhṛtām api ||

This is the island called Sudarśana, shining before us—where the Sun’s radiance is manifest, and with it the power of sight for all living beings.

'The region in front of this mountain is called Sudarsana Island. This island is where the Sun who gives all beings the ability to see rises.

Sūrya (Sun)

Dharma is linked to illumination—both literal and moral. As the Sun enables sight, truth (satya) enables discernment; righteous action depends on clear seeing and clarity of purpose.

Sugriva names a region associated with sunrise and radiance, continuing to map the eastern route for the search.

Viveka (discernment): the idea that right decisions arise from clarity—symbolized by light and sight.
