हनूमद्-दूत्यम् / Hanuman’s Mediation and Lakshmana’s Appeal to Sugriva

एवं ब्रुवाणं सौमित्रिं करुणं साश्रुलोचनम्।हनुमान्प्रत्युवाचेदं वाक्यं वाक्यविशारदः।।

evaṃ bruvāṇaṃ saumitriṃ karuṇaṃ sāśrulocanam | hanumān pratyuvācedaṃ vākyaṃ vākyaviśāradaḥ ||

As Saumitri spoke thus, piteously, his eyes filled with tears, Hanuman—skilled in speech—replied with these words.

To Saumitri who was speaking thus in a piteous tone, his eyes filled with tears the eloquent Hanuman replied:

L
Lakṣmaṇa (Saumitri)
H
Hanumān

Dharma here is compassionate and appropriate response: when another suffers, a wise person replies with measured, helpful speech rather than harshness.

Lakṣmaṇa speaks sorrowfully (with tears), and the narration turns to introduce Hanumān’s reply.

Hanumān’s virtue of vāg-vaibhava—disciplined, discerning speech used to console and guide.
