वालिविलापः — Vali’s Final Counsel and the Succession Charge
माऽस्यामित्रैर्गतं गच्छेर्मा शत्रुभिररिन्दम।भर्तुरर्थपरो दान्तः सुग्रीववशगो भव।।
mā 'syāmitrair gataṃ gaccher mā śatrubhir arindama | bhartur artha-paro dāntaḥ sugrīva-vaśago bhava ||
O subduer of foes, do not go over to those who are his enemies, nor to the enemies themselves. Be self-restrained, devoted to your lord’s welfare, and remain under Sugrīva’s authority.
'O conqueror of foes! do not align with his enemies or with the friends of his enemies. Remain self-restrained and loyal to Sugriva. Be subordinate to his will.
Dharma is loyalty to rightful authority and avoidance of factionalism; discipline and service to the ruler’s welfare prevent civil discord.
Vali warns Angada not to seek support among hostile factions after Vali’s death and instructs him to remain loyal to Sugriva.
Dama (self-restraint) and rāja-bhakti (loyalty to the legitimate king).
