वालिविलापः — Vali’s Final Counsel and the Succession Charge
त्वमेवास्य हि दाता च परित्राता च सर्वशः।भयेष्वभयदश्चैव यथाऽहं प्लवगेश्वर।।।।
tvam evāsya hi dātā ca paritrātā ca sarvaśaḥ | bhayeṣv abhayadaś caiva yathāhaṃ plavageśvara ||
O lord of monkeys, you alone must now be to him what I was—his provider in every way, his rescuer, and the giver of fearlessness in times of danger.
'O lord of monkeys! from now on, you alone will be his father, provider of everything, saviour and protector in danger.
Guardianship as dharma: the new ruler must protect the vulnerable and provide security, treating the heir as a sacred responsibility.
Dying Vāli entrusts Angada’s welfare to Sugrīva, redefining their relationship from rivalry to duty-bound protection.
Accountable kingship: Sugrīva is urged to embody protective leadership and to remove fear from those dependent on him.
