Shloka 4.16.31

वालिवधः — The Slaying of Vali

हीयमानमथोऽपश्यत्सुग्रीवं वानरेश्वरम्।वीक्षमाणं दिशश्चैव राघवस्स मुहुर्मुहुः4.16.31।।

hīyamānamatho'paśyatsugrīvaṃ vānareśvaram | vīkṣamāṇaṃ diśaścaiva rāghavassa muhurmuhuḥ ||

Then Rāghava observed Sugrīva, the lord of monkeys, waning in strength and repeatedly glancing in all directions.

Raghava perceived that the monkey king Sugriva whose strength was waning was looking again and again in all directions (seeking help).

Sugriva was losing strength in his battle against Vali and was anxiously looking around to see when Rama would intervene to save him as promised.

Rama's keen observation signifies his commitment to the alliance (Mitra Dharma). He was waiting for the right moment to intervene without endangering Sugriva, ensuring he fulfilled his vow to protect his friend.
