द्वादशः सर्गः — Rama’s Proof of Power, the First Duel, and the Identification Mark (Kishkindha Kanda, Sarga 12)
तं श्रुत्वा निनदं भ्रातुः क्रुद्धो वाली महाबलः।निश्चक्राम सुसंरब्धो भास्करोऽस्ततटादिव4.12.16।।
taṃ śrutvā ninadaṃ bhrātuḥ kruddho vālī mahābalaḥ | niścakrāma susaṃrabdho bhāskaro 'stataṭād iva ||
Hearing his brother’s roar, the mighty Vali—enraged and vehement—burst forth like the sun rising from beyond the western ocean’s edge.
On hearing his brother roaring, powerful Vali was enraged and rushed like the Sun from behind the western shore of the ocean (this simile suggests the downfall of Vali).
The verse implicitly cautions against krodha (anger): Vali’s enraged reaction shows how passion can drive one into fateful choices, opposing steady discernment.
Vali hears Sugriva’s challenge and rushes out furiously to confront him.
