पम्पा-तीर-वर्णनम् / Rama’s Lament at Pampa and the Approach to Rishyamuka
मां तु शोकाभिसन्तप्तं माधवः पीडयन्ति वै।भरतस्य च दुःखेन वैदेह्या हरणेन च।।।।
māṃ tu śokābhisantaptaṃ mādhavaḥ pīḍayanti vai | bharatasya ca duḥkhena vaidehyā haraṇena ca ||
But I, already scorched by sorrow, am truly tormented by spring—by Bharata’s grief as well, and by the abduction of Vaidehī.
Already saddened due to the abduction of Sita and plight of Bharata, I am tormented by Spring.
Rama’s dharma binds him to multiple responsibilities: compassion for Bharata and steadfast commitment to recover Sita—truthfully acknowledging layered duties rather than ignoring them.
Rama explains to Lakshmana why spring, usually joyful, intensifies his distress: it compounds existing grief about Bharata and Sita’s abduction.
Responsibility and empathy—Rama carries concern for his brother’s suffering alongside his own personal loss.
