Shloka 1.70.38

वंशवर्णनम् तथा विवाहप्रार्थना — Genealogy of the Ikshvaku Line and the Proposal for Marriage

सगरस्यासमञ्जस्तु असमञ्जात्तथांऽशुमान्।दिलीपोंऽशुमत: पुत्रो दिलीपस्य भगीरथ:।।1.70.38।।

sagarasyāsamañjas tu asamañjāt tathāṃśumān | dilīpo 'ṃśumataḥ putro dilīpasya bhagīrathaḥ || 1.70.38 ||

Sagara’s son was Asamañja; from Asamañja was born Aṃśumān. Dilīpa was the son of Aṃśumān, and Bhagiratha was Dilīpa’s son.

Asamanja was the son of Sagara and to him was born Anshuman. Dilipa was the son of Anshuman and father of Bhagiratha.

Dharma is continuity of righteous kingship: the careful naming of succession preserves social memory and legitimizes the ideals expected of rulers.

The narrator lists successive descendants in the solar dynasty from Sagara onward.

Royal responsibility across generations (rāja-dharma) is implied through the orderly transmission of lineage.
