All—men and women alike—were righteous in conduct and well self-controlled; flourishing through noble character and upright behavior, they were pure like great rishis.
All men and women (in the city) were of righteous conduct, fully self-controlled and prosperous with good conduct and behaviour. They were pure like maharshis.
Dharma is lived as disciplined conduct (śīla-vṛtta) and self-control; societal prosperity is linked to inner restraint and purity.
The narrator continues the civic portrait of Ayodhyā, emphasizing universal moral culture across genders and social life.
Susaṃyama (self-restraint) and amalā (purity), presented as the shared virtue of the whole community.
