Shloka 1.50.1

यज्ञवाटप्रवेशः जनक-विश्वामित्रसंवादश्च (Arrival at the Sacrificial Ground and Janaka’s Reception)

तत: प्रागुत्तरां गत्वा रामस्सौमित्रिणा सह।विश्वामित्रं पुरस्कृत्य यज्ञवाटमुपागमत्।।1.50.1।।

tataḥ prāg-uttarāṃ gatvā rāmaḥ saumitriṇā saha | viśvāmitraṃ puraskṛtya yajñavāṭam upāgamat ||

Then Rāma, accompanied by Saumitrī (Lakṣmaṇa), went toward the northeast; keeping Viśvāmitra in front, he reached the sacrificial enclosure.

Rama accompanied by Lakshmana with Viswamitra ahead proceeded in north-easterly direction and reached the sacrificial ground.

Service to a righteous teacher and protection of sacred rites: Rāma honors the sage by placing him foremost and proceeds to safeguard the yajña.

Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa travel with Viśvāmitra and arrive at the site of the sage’s sacrifice.

Obedience and reverence toward the guru/ṛṣi (vinaya), expressed through following, honoring, and assisting.
