दितेर्गर्भभङ्गो मरुत्प्रतिष्ठा च (Diti’s Severed Embryo and the स्थापना of the Maruts; Viśālā-nagara Lineage)
तस्य पुत्रो महातेजा: सम्प्रत्येष पुरीमिमाम्।आवसत्यमरप्रख्यस्सुमतिर्नाम दुर्जय:।।।।
tasya putro mahātejāḥ sampratyeṣa purīm imām | āvasaty amaraprakhyaḥ sumatir nāma durjayaḥ ||
His son—radiant with great energy—now dwells in this very city: the invincible Sumati, famed as one like the gods.
Son of Ikshvakus, Sumati comparable to devatas, invincible and exceedingly energetic is still ruling this city.
The verse models the dhārmic ideal of kingship: a ruler’s “invincibility” is presented as a function of righteous order and divine-like excellence, not mere force.
Viśvāmitra identifies the current king of Vaiśālī (Sumati) as the living successor in the line, tying genealogy to the present moment of the journey.
