avane naikarūpā tvaṃ bahubhāryā bhaviṣyasi.

na ca putrakṛtāṃ prītiṃ mat-krodha-kaluṣīkṛtā |

prāpsyasi tvaṃ sudurmedhe mama putram anicchatī ||

O Earth, you shall not remain of a single form; you will become the wife of many masters. And, stained by my anger—since you did not wish me to have a son—you shall not obtain the joy that comes from having a son, O wicked-minded one.

"O Earth! you will assume many forms and become wife of many masters. O evil-minded one, you did not want me to bear a son. Having been fouled as a result of my anger, you will not have the pleasure of having a son, cursed Uma.

U
Umā (Pārvatī)
A
Avanī / Pṛthivī (Earth)
P
putra (son)

The verse underscores karmaphala: actions and intentions—especially those that obstruct another’s rightful aim—invite consequences. It also warns that anger (krodha) can become a contaminating force that leads to harsh outcomes.

Within Viśvāmitra’s narration about Śiva and Umā, Umā pronounces a curse upon Earth, stating that Earth will become manifold and will not enjoy the happiness associated with bearing a son.

Negatively, the verse highlights the danger of krodha (anger) overpowering discernment; positively by contrast, it points toward self-restraint and righteous intention as essential to dharma.
