Shloka 1.25.1

ताटकावृत्तान्तः — The Account of Tāṭakā and the Royal Duty to Protect

अथ तस्याप्रमेयस्य मुनेर्वचनमुत्तमम्।श्रुत्वा पुरुषशार्दूल: प्रत्युवाच शुभां गिरम्।।।।

atha tasyāprameyasya muner vacanam uttamam | śrutvā puruṣa-śārdūlaḥ pratyuvāca śubhāṃ giram || 1.25.1 ||

Then, having heard the excellent words of that immeasurable sage, Rāma—the tiger among men—replied with auspicious and gentle speech.

On hearing the excellent words of Viswamitra, a sage with unimaginable faculty. Rama, the tiger among men (Rama) replied in a, gentle voice:

Dharma here is maryādā in speech: one responds to elders and teachers with respectful, auspicious words after listening carefully.

A transition verse: after Viśvāmitra’s explanation, the narration turns to Rāma’s response.

Rāma’s humility and disciplined speech—strength joined to gentleness.
