श्रीमद्रामायणकथासङ्क्षेपः / The Ramayana in Synopsis (Narada’s Summary to Valmiki)
बुद्धिमान्नीतिमान्वाग्मी श्रीमान् शत्रुनिबर्हण: ।विपुलांसो महाबाहु: कम्बुग्रीवो महाहनु: ।।।।
buddhimān nītimān vāgmī śrīmān śatrunibarhaṇaḥ |
vipulāṃso mahābāhuḥ kambugrīvo mahāhanuḥ ||
He (Rāma) is profoundly intelligent and grounded in righteous governance; eloquent and radiant with auspicious fortune; a destroyer of enemies. Broad-shouldered and mighty-armed, he bears a conch-like neck and a strong, prominent jaw.
He (Sri Rama) is a great intellectual, adherent to rules, eloquent, handsome, destroyer of foes (sins), broad-shouldered, strong-armed, having conch-shaped neck and prominent cheeks.
Dharma here is expressed as inner excellence suitable for righteous leadership: intelligence guided by nīti (ethical governance), truthful/skillful speech, and the power to restrain or defeat harm.
Vālmīki asks who in the world embodies ideal qualities; Nārada replies by listing Rāma’s virtues, beginning with his intellectual, ethical, and bodily excellences.
Nītimattva—mastery of ethical conduct and statecraft—supported by eloquence (vāgmī) and the protective strength to overcome enemies (śatrunibarhaṇaḥ).
