Shloka 2.90.16

भरद्वाजाश्रमगमनम् (Bharata at Bharadvāja’s Hermitage)

न चैतदिष्टं माता मे यदवोचन्मदन्तरे।नाहमेतेन तुष्टश्च न तद्वचनमाददे।।2.90.16।।

hato 'smi yadi mām evaṃ bhagavān api manyate |

matto na doṣam āśaṅke naivaṃ mām anuśāstu hi || 2.90.15 ||

If even you, venerable sir, think of me in this way, then I am undone. Suspect no wrongdoing in me; do not reprove me so.

I do not approve of whatever my mother said in my absence. I am not happy with those words and I do not accept them.

Bharata
B
Bharadvāja

The verse centers on satya (truthfulness of intention) and moral accountability: Bharata insists that suspicion itself wounds dharma when one’s conduct is upright.

Bharata responds to Bharadvāja’s implied accusation that he may seek the throne by harming Rāma.

Śīla (upright character) and śuddha-bhāva (purity of motive), expressed through Bharata’s anguished repudiation of any selfish intent.
