Using forest garlands, fruits and roots, properly prepared meats, together with water, Veda-prescribed prayers, darbha grass, and fuel-sticks with kuśa grass—according to rule—
Bestowed with auspicious qualities, Rama and Lakshmana along with Sita propitiated those celestial beings with garlands of forest flowers, fruits and roots, well-cooked venison, water, muttering of prayers as expounded in the Vedas, faggots and kusa grass and entered that auspicious hermitage.
Dharma is adherence to proper means: even with simple forest resources, the rites are performed correctly (yathāvidhi), showing that sincerity and rule-based conduct matter more than luxury.
The verse lists the materials and ritual elements used for propitiatory offerings as the exiles prepare to reside in the forest hermitage.
Austerity joined with precision—using whatever is available in the forest while maintaining Vedic propriety.
