Shloka 2.5.13

अभिषेकोपवास-आदेशः (Coronation Preparations and the Fast Enjoined)

सुहृद्भिस्तत्र रामोऽपि सहासीनः प्रियंवदैः।सभाजितो विवेशाऽथ ताननुज्ञाप्य सर्वशः।।।।

gacchopavāsaṃ kākutsthaṃ kārayādya tapodhana |

śrīyaśorājyalābhāya vadhvā saha yatavratam ||

Go today, O sage whose wealth is austerity, and have Kakutstha (Rāma)—steadfast in his vows—undertake a fast together with my daughter-in-law, so that prosperity, fame, and the kingdom may be rightly secured.

Rama also sat for a while in the company of his sweet-tongued friends and duly honoured by them in every way took leave of them and entered his apartment.

Daśaratha instructs Vasiṣṭha to go to Rāma and arrange a fast for Rāma and Sītā as part of the coronation rites.

Rāma’s vrata-niyama (steadfastness in vows) and the king’s concern for auspicious, rule-bound procedure.
