त्रयस्त्रिंशः सर्गः — Civic Lament and Rama’s Dutiful Approach to Daśaratha
ततः प्रासादहर्म्याणि विमानशिखराणि च।अधिरुह्य जनश्श्रीमानुदासीनो व्यलोकयत्।।।।
ity evaṃ vividhā vāco nānājanasamīritāḥ | śuśrāva rāmaḥ śrutvā ca na vicakre 'sya mānasam ||
Thus Rāma heard the many kinds of words spoken by various people; yet even after hearing them, his mind did not swerve from its resolve.
The rich climbed their palaces and mansions, terraces of seven-storied buildings and watched them sadly.
Steadfastness in dharma: Rāma does not let public opinion or emotional appeals divert him from what he understands as righteous duty.
After hearing many lamenting or varied remarks from the people, Rāma continues forward without changing his decision.
Dhṛti (firmness) and satya-niṣṭhā (commitment to truth/duty) in Rāma’s inner life.
