त्रयस्त्रिंशः सर्गः — Civic Lament and Rama’s Dutiful Approach to Daśaratha
ततो गृहीते दुष्प्रेक्षे त्वशोभेतां तदायुधे।मालादामभिराबद्धे सीतया समलङ्कृते।।।।
vanaṃ nagaram evāstu yena gacchati rāghavaḥ |
asmābhiś ca parityaktaṃ puraṃ sampadyatāṃ vanam ||
Wherever Rāghava goes, let that very forest be our city; and let the city, abandoned by us, turn into a forest.
The pair of dazzling weapons held (by Rama and Lakshmana) looked splendid decorated with flower garlands by Sita.
Dharma-centered belonging: the “right place” is where righteousness is, not where comfort or infrastructure is.
Citizens invert values—forest becomes preferable to Ayodhyā if Rāma is absent—expressing intent to accompany him.
Rāma’s moral centrality: his presence sanctifies even wilderness as civic, safe, and meaningful.
