I am wholly fixed on you, my heart bound to you; if separated from you, I am resolved upon death. Take me, be gracious and grant my request—because of me, you will not be burdened.

Since I have no thought other than you and my heart is (irretrievably) attached to youI have resolved to die if separated from you. Pray, be favourably disposed to take me. I shall not be a burden to you.

S
Sītā
R
Rāma
D
Death (maraṇa)

Truthful commitment (satya) to one’s chosen dharma: Sītā openly states the consequence of separation and petitions for a path that preserves righteous unity.

Sītā makes a final, urgent plea to accompany Rāma, declaring that separation is unbearable and that she will not hinder him.

Single-minded devotion and frank truthfulness—she speaks plainly, taking responsibility for her own resolve.
