असमञ्जस्तु पुत्रोऽभूत्सगरस्येति न श्श्रुतम्।जीवन्नेव स पित्रा तु निरस्तः पापकर्मकृत्।।।।
asamañjas tu putro ’bhūt sagarasya iti naḥ śrutam |
jīvann eva sa pitrā tu nirastaḥ pāpa-karma-kṛt ||
We have heard that Sagara had a son named Asamañja. While his father yet lived, that doer of sinful deeds was banished by him.
We have heard that a son, Asamanja by name, was born to Sagara. For his sinful deeds he was banished by his father while he was still alive.
Impartial justice: even one’s own child may be disciplined or expelled if he persists in wrongdoing—rāja-dharma prioritizes public good and moral order over personal attachment.
The lineage account notes Asamañja as Sagara’s son and records his banishment due to sinful conduct.
