सीताहरण-विलापः / The Lament at Jatāyu and the Abduction of Sītā
तां क्लिष्टमाल्याभरणां विलपन्तीमनाथवत्।अभ्यधावत् वैदेहीं रावणो राक्षसाधिपः।।।।
tāṃ kliṣṭamālyābharaṇāṃ vilapantīmanāthavat | abhyadhāvata vaidehīṃ rāvaṇo rākṣasādhipaḥ ||
Rāvaṇa, lord of the rākṣasas, rushed upon Vaidehī, who wailed helplessly like an orphan, her garlands and ornaments crushed and disordered in the struggle.
Ravana, king of the demons, ran towards Sita who was weeping like an orphan with her garlands and ornaments crushed.
Sita is described as 'anāthavat' (like an orphan or helpless one) because, at this moment of crisis, she is separated from her protectors, Rama and Lakshmana, leaving her vulnerable to Ravana's aggression.
The phrase describes her garlands and ornaments as being crushed, symbolizing the physical violence of the abduction and the disruption of her royal dignity and peace by the act of Adharma.
