Yet you are but a jackal, desiring me—a lioness hard to attain. You cannot even touch me, any more than one can touch the radiance of the sun.
You are a jackal, and you want a lioness like me who is difficult to win. I am like the Sun's radiance whom you cannot even touch.
Inviolability of righteous commitment: Sītā asserts an uncrossable moral boundary—adharma has no entitlement to touch what is protected by dharma.
Sītā openly rebukes Rāvaṇa, using sharp metaphors to deny his claim and to declare her untouchability.
Courageous speech and purity of resolve: she responds without fear, affirming her dignity and unwavering fidelity.
