Stay here, fully prepared and disciplined, and protect Maithilī. For whatever duty lies before us depends upon her safety, O delight of the Raghu line.

O Lakshmana, delight of the Raghu dynasty, be very alert and restrained and protect Sita. Whatever duty we have to perform depends on her protection.

L
Lakṣmaṇa
M
Maithilī (Sītā)
R
Raghu dynasty

Dharma includes vigilant protection of the vulnerable; safeguarding Sītā is presented as the condition upon which all other rightful action depends.

Rāma prepares to pursue the deer and assigns Lakṣmaṇa the duty of guarding Sītā at the hermitage.

Responsibility and alertness: Lakṣmaṇa is urged to be both ready (sannaddha) and self-controlled (yantrita).
