Shloka 3.31.21
अकम्पनवृत्तान्तः — Akampana Reports Janasthana; Ravana Plans Sita’s Abduction
अकम्पनवचश्रुत्वा रावणो वाक्यमब्रवीत्।जनस्थानं गमिष्यामि हन्तुं रामं सलक्ष्मणम्।।3.31.21।।
athaivam ukte vacane provācedam akampanaḥ |
śṛṇu rājan yathāvṛttaṃ rāmasya balapauruṣam ||3.31.22||
When Rāvaṇa spoke thus, Akampana replied: “Listen, O king, to what truly happened—and to Rāma’s strength and manly prowess.”
Hearing Akampana's words, Ravana said, I will go to Janasthana and kill Rama along with Lakshmana.
Satya (truthful reporting) is upheld: before action, one should hear the facts as they occurred, not act on impulse.
After Rāvaṇa’s threat, Akampana attempts to brief him accurately about Rāma’s real capabilities.
Commitment to factual truth and prudent counsel, even when addressing an enraged ruler.
