उत्पातदर्शनं खरसैन्यसमागमश्च (Omens of calamity and the approach of Khara’s army)
आश्रमं प्रति याते तु खरे खरपराक्रमे।तानेवौत्पातिकान्रामस्सह भ्रात्रा ददर्श ह।।।।
rakṣasāṃ nardatāṃ ghoraḥ śrūyate ca mahādhvaniḥ | āhatānāṃ ca bherīṇāṃ rākṣasaiḥ krūra-karmabhiḥ ||
A dreadful, thunderous uproar was heard—the roaring of rākṣasas and the booming of bherī kettle-drums beaten by those demons of cruel deeds.
When Khara endowed with malicious might was marching towards the hermitage, Rama and his brother saw the same omens of impending calamity the demon had seen.
Dharma stands firm against intimidation. The verse contrasts noise and cruelty with the need for righteous steadiness.
As the demon host approaches, their roars and drums announce the coming battle.
Courage—remaining undisturbed by threats and meeting violence with disciplined defense.
