Virādha-saṃvādaḥ — Encounter with Virādha in the Daṇḍakāraṇya (Aranya Kanda, Sarga 2)
तस्यैवं ब्रुवतो दुष्टं विराधस्य दुरात्मनः।श्रुत्वा सगर्वितं वाक्यं सम्भ्रान्ता जनकात्मजा।।।।
tasyaivaṃ bruvato duṣṭaṃ virādhasya durātmanaḥ | śrutvā sa-garvitaṃ vākyaṃ sambhrāntā janakātmajā ||
Hearing the cruel, boastful words thus spoken by that wicked-souled Virādha, Janaka’s daughter was shaken with fear and confusion.
Sita, daughter of Janaka was bewildered out of fear when she heard the cruel and boastful words of that wicked Viradha.
It reinforces the dharmic obligation to protect the vulnerable when confronted with coercion and terror.
Sītā hears Virādha’s threats and becomes frightened; the narration prepares for Rāma’s immediate protective response.
Sītā’s sensitivity and human fear are acknowledged; the scene amplifies the virtue of compassion and protective responsibility in the protagonists.
