पञ्चाप्सरो-सरः कथनम् तथा अगस्त्याश्रममार्गनिर्देशः (Panchapsara Lake Account and Directions to Agastya)
ततोऽब्रवीत्समीपस्थं रामो राजीवलोचनः।पृष्ठतोऽनुगतं वीरं लक्ष्मणं लक्ष्मिवर्धनम्।।।।
tato ’bravīt samīpasthaṃ rāmo rājīvalocanaḥ | pṛṣṭhato ’nugataṃ vīraṃ lakṣmaṇaṃ lakṣmivardhanam ||
Then lotus-eyed Rama spoke to the valiant Lakshmana, who stood close by and followed just behind him—whose very presence heightened dignity and grace.
Then the lotus-eyed Rama said to the chivalrous, graceful Lakshmana who stood behind him:
Dharma here is expressed as maryādā in relationships: Rama addresses Lakshmana with respect, recognizing his valor and supportive presence—an ethic of honoring those who serve righteously.
As they move through the forest nearing a sage’s region, Rama turns to speak to Lakshmana who is close behind, setting up the next observation/instruction.
Lakshmana’s steadfast loyalty and protective vigilance, and Rama’s leadership through considerate, dignifying speech.
