Matsya Purana — Yayāti and His Sons: The Exchange of Youth and Old Age
*शौनक उवाच एवमुक्तः प्रत्युवाच पूरुः पितरमञ्जसा यथात्थ त्वं महाराज तत्करिष्यामि ते वचः //
*śaunaka uvāca evamuktaḥ pratyuvāca pūruḥ pitaramañjasā yathāttha tvaṃ mahārāja tatkariṣyāmi te vacaḥ //
Śaunaka said: Thus addressed, Pūru promptly replied to his father: “As you have spoken, O great king, I shall do exactly as you command.”
This verse is not about Pralaya; it belongs to the dynastic narrative and highlights ethical conduct—Pūru’s immediate acceptance of his father-king’s request.
It underscores obedience, truthfulness, and readiness to uphold family duty (pitṛ-śuśrūṣā). In royal-dharma terms, it portrays the ideal son/subject who honors legitimate authority and keeps commitments.
No Vāstu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is stated here; the significance is ethical and genealogical—establishing Pūru’s exemplary conduct within the Yayāti lineage.
