Matsya Purana — Yayāti and His Sons: The Exchange of Youth and Old Age
*ययातिरुवाच यस्त्वं मे हृदयाज्जातो वयः स्वं न प्रयच्छसि तस्मात्प्रजा समुच्छेदं तुर्वसो तव यास्यति //
*yayātiruvāca yastvaṃ me hṛdayājjāto vayaḥ svaṃ na prayacchasi tasmātprajā samucchedaṃ turvaso tava yāsyati //
Yayāti said: “You who were born from my very heart—since you do not grant me your own youth, therefore, O Turvasu, your line of descendants shall come to extinction.”
This verse does not address cosmic creation or Pralaya; it is a dynastic-ethical statement where a king’s curse determines the continuation or extinction of a human lineage.
It reflects the Purāṇic ethic that family duty and obedience to elders (especially a father’s request) affect social continuity; refusal results in loss of royal succession and the weakening or ending of one’s lineage.
No Vāstu, temple-building, or ritual procedure is mentioned; the focus is on lineage, kingship consequences, and the moral weight of spoken authority (śāpa/curse).
