Matsya Purana — Yadu Lineage
मित्रविन्दा च कालिन्दी देवी जाम्बवती तथा सुशीला च तथा माद्री कौशल्या विजया तथा एवमादीनि देवीनां सहस्राणि च षोडश //
mitravindā ca kālindī devī jāmbavatī tathā suśīlā ca tathā mādrī kauśalyā vijayā tathā evamādīni devīnāṃ sahasrāṇi ca ṣoḍaśa //
Mitravindā, and Kāḷindī, and the goddess-like Jāmbavatī as well; Suśīlā, Mādrī, Kauśalyā, and Vijayā—thus and others of that kind—(in all) sixteen thousand divine queens.
This verse does not discuss Pralaya; it is a narrative enumeration of prominent queens associated with Śrī Kṛṣṇa, emphasizing the traditional count of sixteen thousand royal consorts.
By listing queens and their plurality, the verse reflects Purāṇic ideals of royal household order—marriage alliances, protection of dependents, and the king’s obligation to uphold dignity and dharma within the inner palace (antaḥpura).
No Vāstu or ritual procedure is specified in this verse; its primary significance is genealogical/narrative, helping locate the Dvārikā household tradition within the Matsya Purāṇa’s broader historical account.
