Matsya Purana — Tripura’s Prosperity
द्विषन्ति ब्राह्मणान्पुण्यान् न चार्चन्ति हि देवताः गुरुं चैव न मन्यन्ते ह्य् अन्योन्यं चापि चुक्रुधुः //
dviṣanti brāhmaṇānpuṇyān na cārcanti hi devatāḥ guruṃ caiva na manyante hy anyonyaṃ cāpi cukrudhuḥ //
They hate the virtuous Brāhmaṇas; they do not worship the gods; they do not honor the guru; and they become mutually enraged with one another.
This verse does not describe cosmic pralaya directly; it describes moral and social decline—hatred of the righteous, neglect of worship, disrespect to the guru, and mutual anger—which the Purana treats as adharma that precedes wider disorder.
It implies that a king and householder must uphold dharma by honoring Brāhmaṇas, maintaining deva-pūjā, respecting teachers/elders, and preventing factional anger—since these failures are listed as clear signs of societal collapse.
The ritual point is explicit: neglecting devatā-arcana (worship of the deities) is condemned. No Vāstu or temple-construction rule is stated in this verse, but it supports the broader Matsya Purana emphasis on proper worship and priestly guidance.
