Matsya Purana — The Slaying of Jambha and the Rise of Tāraka: Divine Battle Formations
तैर्यन्त्रैरभवद्बद्धम् अन्तरिक्षे वितानकम् वितानकेन तेनाथ प्रशमं मौसले गते //
tairyantrairabhavadbaddham antarikṣe vitānakam vitānakena tenātha praśamaṃ mausale gate //
By those mechanical devices a canopy was fastened aloft in mid-air; and by means of that very canopy, calm was restored when the tumult of the pestle-weapon (mausala) had passed.
It does not describe cosmic pralaya directly; it depicts a calamity-like disturbance (mausala) being pacified through a constructed, protective arrangement—suggesting ordered design as a means to restore stability.
It implies a practical dharma of protection: leaders and householders should employ skilled planning and technology (yantra) to safeguard people and ritual spaces, restoring peace after disruption.
The verse highlights the vitāna (canopy) as a key pavilion/mandapa element, here described as being secured aloft via yantras—pointing to engineered methods for suspending coverings used in rituals and temple spaces.
