Matsya Purana — The Rite of the Jaggery-Cow
मन्त्रावाहनसंयुक्ताः सदा पर्वणि पर्वणि यथाश्रद्धं प्रदातव्या भुक्तिमुक्तिफलप्रदाः //
mantrāvāhanasaṃyuktāḥ sadā parvaṇi parvaṇi yathāśraddhaṃ pradātavyā bhuktimuktiphalapradāḥ //
Offerings consecrated with mantra and accompanied by proper invocation (āvāhana) should always be given at every sacred occasion (parvan), according to one’s faith and capacity; they bestow the fruits of worldly enjoyment as well as liberation (mokṣa).
This verse does not address pralaya directly; it teaches that properly consecrated offerings on sacred occasions generate merit that yields both worldly well-being (bhukti) and liberation (mukti).
It frames dāna as a regular duty on calendrical sacred days (parvans): one should give in proportion to one’s śraddhā and means, ensuring the act is ritually valid through mantra and āvāhana.
The ritual point is central: gifts/offerings should be accompanied by mantra and āvāhana (formal invocation), indicating that intention plus correct liturgical procedure is what makes the act spiritually efficacious.
